Remote warfare and sexual violence in Djibouti

September 27, 2017

This report looks at possible connections between foreign military bases and sexual violence in the East African country of Djibouti. China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Russia, United Kingdom, and United States have troops and contractors stationed in this country, which is also a hotbed of trafficking and forced prostitution. There has been some indication of foreign soldiers engaging in illegal sexual activities with women and girls; this report seeks to expose what we know and encourage international organisations and governments to dig further.
