Korea Peace Now

With our global campaign Korea Peace Now! Women Mobilizing to End the War launched in March 2019, we are seeking an end to the 67-year old Korean War.

While the Korean War (1950-53) no longer consists of active fighting, it never ended. Hostilities between the two parties have remained high, resulting in an extreme militarisation of the Korean Peninsula.

A peace agreement is needed – and it now is within reach.

Women have for decades called for peace on the Korean Peninsula, but despite their efforts very few women are involved in the official peace process.

Change is needed. Women is needed.

Korea Peace Now – Women Mobilizing to End the War is a women-led campaign. We call for an end to the war, and we call for women to be part of the official Korean peace process.

Not because of our gender, but because the inclusion of women and our experiences, concerns and recommendations are crucial to achieve lasting peace and stability.

Korea Peace Now! Women Mobilizing to End the War is a global campaign to educate, organise and advocate for a Korea peace treaty or agreement by 2020. The campaign is being led by Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), Women Cross DMZ, Nobel Women’s Initiative and the Korean Women’s Movement for Peace.

The Korea Peace Now! campaign is part of WILPF’s ongoing work to strengthen feminist peace – a fundamentally different approach to peace and security that defines true human security not by stockpiling weapons or issuing threats, but by dismantling structures of oppression and injustice through, negotiation, participation and cooperation.

During the 63rd session on the UN Commission on the Status of Women, a press conference with women leaders from the US, South Korea and Japan was held for the Korea Peace Now Campaign. Click here to know more about the press conference.
