Delivering on the Women, Peace and Security agenda in Syria: Realities, challenges and the way forward
September 14, 2017
14:30- 4:00 pm , Palais des nations, Geneva, Room XXIV (24)
Throughout the six-year conflict in Syria, women’s rights activists have worked to deliver a wide range of life saving services and advocate for human rights of women and girls. However; their contributions, experiences, and concerns continue to be missing from international policy discussions. To address that, the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), Amnesty International UK, and Women Now for Development have organised consultations with Syrian women human rights defenders, gender equality advocates and civil society organisations.
The consultation report will be launched at this side-event, followed by a discussion and a call for a better action on WPS to ensure meaningful protection, participation and support for women and girls inside Syria, and those seeking refuge abroad.
