WILPF MAKING PLANS FOR FIRST US SOCIAL FORUM IN ATLANTA, JUNE 27-JULY 1, 2007

WILPF is making plans for involvement in the US Social Forum (USSF) which will be held in Atlanta June 27-July 1, 2007. WILPF will take a lead role in organizing the USSF Women's Working Group (email link) US Social Forum Court of Women, an event that has become a tradition at social fora around the world. (Please search for US Social Forum Court of Women info on the web so you can see what this event entails.) The US Social Forum Court of Women will be the Women's Working Group's main, signature event, with high visibility throughout the social forum and WILPF as lead organizer will be in the spotlight. WILPF'ers wishing to take part in organizing the US Social Forum Court of Women please contact Pat Willis at pwill06@coastalnet.com. All are welcome to participate.

Many more impressive WILPF USSF activities are also beginning to take shape as well. DISARM, Water, WCUSP, Advancing Human Rights/CEDAW, Cuba are all starting to think about/develop plans for workshops and other events. All issue committees and campaigns are being asked to organize their WILPF-USSF events. There is ample opportunity for collaboration with other organizations, which is a hallmark social forum strategy in order to cross fertilize movements. The USSF website is ussf2007.org.

Any WILPF woman can join the Women's Working Group yahoo listserv and help to organize the many events that will come under the WWG aegis. You can also join the monthly conference calls with 30-50 other WWG members. The WWG is led by longtime Black feminist activist Loretta Ross of SisterSong. We are so pleased that Loretta is doing this as she has such high stature in the feminist community and the activist community generally. So please contact me, look at the USSF website, join the WWG, and begin to think about your participation in the USSF.
