Hi Katharine,

Thanks for sending this out. There is an Arab-American doctor here in Phoenix who has
bought into this whole thing and who writes a lot of articles slamming CAIR and the local
mosque. He has started his own organization, but he speaks mostly for himself. Reminds
me of some of the anti-Arab Arabs the networks grabbed during the '90s to shill for their
anti-Arab biases. This doctor also appears on some right-wing talk shows. Makes me
wonder if he spends any time in his medical practice. He seems to be trying to distance
himself from the Muslim community (and he is succeeding) by saying that politics has no
place in the mosque. By that, he means politics that don't agree with his. It also
reminds me of the term "self-hating Jew," which many of my friends have earned from the
right-wing Jewish community. He calls himself a Muslim, but the local imam has locked
horns with him over what is appropriate behavior at a mosque, and politics are still a
part of the mosque agenda, at the imam's behest.

I've always wondered what specific thing turned Horowitz from the left-wing radical he
once was to the lapdog for the right wing that he is today. As for this doctor, he has
written about being upset by the insertion of social justice issues (his term is
"political" but what he describes is social justice) into mosque worship services, and
that seems to have been one turning point. The other was the indoctrination he got as
a member of the U.S. military. My guess is that he got harassed for being a Muslim and
rebelled by becoming what he imagined to be "more American"--his term, not mine.

Hope you are doing well.

Barb T.
