this event was a great success with emphasis on
Palestinian history, politics and culture with an
exhibit of UN photos and films and sale of Palestinian
handicraftsans trade goods (organic olive oil,
embroidery and olive wood carving) to support
Palestinian craft persons and farmers.
The keynote speaker was Professor Rashid Khalidi
who spoke to the situation presently in Palestine. He
did not tell us what we could do but informed us with
about many not spoken about facts. One thing I found
interesting was that Palestine does not have a
government but a Palestinian authority that is
beholden to Israel in as much that Israel controls the
Palestinians in every way by the occupation. For
example, Palestinians can only go to hospitals,
schools, travel in and out of the occupied
territories, trade goods, farm their land, have
running water, electricity etc. at the whim of the
Isreli government, generals and military. Professor
Khalidi gave me much to think about.
