The "Women Challenge US Policy, Building Peace on Justice in the Middle East," [WCUSP] national campaign of WILPF invites branches to participate in our project "Women's Vision: A Feminist US Policy on the Middle East."

WILPF has a long history of providing a holistic, gendered analysis of international relations. In the tradition of promoting policies that move us closer to our mission of world peace and global equality, our goal is to challenge the neo-conservative agenda and to offer the seeds for an alternative U.S. foreign policy on the Middle East.

We participated in articulating this vision through our International Peace Train to the Fourth World Conference on Women and our activities during the conference. We support The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.

The US Government has virtually ignored these international agendas by not mainstreaming gender-analysis and gender-perspective in the peace-building peace-keeping process. We seek to overturn the lack of gender analysis in US foreign policy.

Calling for a gendered, feminist vision means calling for a vision that includes women at every step of the process, and uses gender analysis to ensure that the needs of all humans are taken into account.

We are inviting branches to work with like-minded local organizations to create round tables on US Policy on the Middle East and to share with us the result of their colloquia. We will provide you with a toolkit of resources to aid in this process.

We are asking you to envision a bold set of policies for the United States role in the Middle East, which we will then compile into a comprehensive legislative agenda to deliver in the fall to Congress, the White House, and the State Department.

Because the US has such a large footprint in the Middle East, the voices of US Women are particularly important. Our sisters in Tel Aviv and Ramallah must be allowed to determine their future. We, in the US, bear the responsibility for Washington's influence and response.

We hope you will join us in creating "Women's Vision: A Feminist US Policy on the Middle East."
The time to demand a new U.S. Policy in the Middle East is now!
