Nayla Ayesh and Lily Traubmann "Woman of the year"
2007
- Valle d'Aosta, Italy-

Saint Vincent, 1st December

“Since many years they are fighting every day in a
silent way, far away from the media, against the
Israeli –Palestinian conflict and for peace”: with
these motivations Nayla Ayesh and Lily Traubmann have
been rewarded today with the International Prize
“Woman of the year” 2007 concerning “Human rights
without borders”.

The Award, wanted by the Presidency of the Regional
Council of Valle d’Aosta under the High Patronage of
the President of the Italian Republic and on the
proposal by Luisa Morgantini, Vice President of the
European Parliament and by Women in Black from Milan,
was delivered by the Princess Maria Gabriella of
Savoy, during a ceremony in Saint Vincent, today 1st
December.

“This Prize is not only for me –declared Nayla Ayesh
receiving the award- but it is for all women that in
Palestine have no voice, that are suffering because of
the Israeli Occupation, but that still resist in a
pacific and non violent way. My thought is also for
all wounded and ill people that are prevented to go
out from Gaza through the Eretz and the other border
crossings. I really hope that Palestinians will be
immediately free from the Israeli Occupation and that
we could live in peace and security alongside with the
Israelis”.

Lily Traubmann also declared that “this prize is for
all women, that since so many years in Israel are
fighting against the military occupation and for a
just and sustainable peace for both Israelis and
Palestinians”.

“I am really happy today – declared Luisa Morgantini,
Vice President of the European Parliament, who ,
toghether with Women in Black from Milan, proposed
Nayla and Lily’s nominees for the Award - This
Prize is symbolically very strong, especially in this
moment, because we need this example of Palestinian
and Israeli women standing together against the
occupation. Nayla and Lily recognize both the right
for freedom and self determination and the necessity
of two States for the two people living in peace and
security: they showed that Israelis and Palestinians
can work together for peace and justice and the choice
to rewarded them makes honour to the regional Council
of Valle d’Aosta”.
