BAGHDAD - Clashes erupted between gunmen and U.S. and
Iraqi forces around a Shiite mosque in western Baghdad
just before Friday prayers, witnesses and local media
said. The U.S. military said it was looking into the
reports. 

In a Sunni enclave of Baghdad, U.S. soldiers were
building a three-mile wall to separate residents from
surrounding Shiite neighborhoods in hopes of halting
"a spiral of sectarian violence and retaliation," the
military said.
