Yes, an excellent response to the book (which none of us have read yet!).

I'll repeat once more -- I do think Israel is an apartheid state.  I don't think that should be the framework in which we frame our activities.  

I don't see anything in Gila's message that refers to Israel that way, yet what a searing indictment of Israeli policy!

  Dear Mr. Carter,

  We read about your upcoming book, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, in the Jewish Forward. As American Jews, we're thrilled to hear a former U.S. president speaking with such courage about the suffering and loss of life Palestinians are enduring. We are heart-broken that our own government is making this immoral occupation possible.

  Across the U.S., thousands of people are laboring for a just peace for Palestinians and Israelis. We are members of Jewish Voice for Peace, a national group in support of the aspirations of Israelis and Palestinians for security and self-determination. We seek an end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem and a resolution of the Palestinian refugee problem consistent with international law and equity.

  We know some Jewish organizations are upset about what you're saying, but we wanted you to know that a great many Jews in the US, Israel and around the world are not represented by these organizations. We share your outrage about U.S. tax dollars enabling human misery instead of freedom. We are working to make change in our own synagogues, schools, communities and families. We are speaking out so fellow Americans can be emboldened to speak honestly, without fear of offending Jewish friends, and knowing they have Jewish support.

  Thank you for speaking so honestly, without fear, and with compassion for the suffering of Palestinians forced to live under occupation.

The Israeli prime minister in a live speech has just said that they are fighting the enemies of peace of Lebanon. I see. So those children that have been incinerated in Lebanon by Israeli bombing must have been enemies of peace. I will try to inform their parents.
