[WCUSP] Jewish peace demo today

Today in Philadelphia the Jewish establishment groups held a pro-Israeli rally.  This is the report of a small group of members of Philadelphia Jewish Voice for Peace who had their own vigil at the same time nearby. Every little bit adds up until we win.

Hi all,

 

I am happy to report that we had a very successful demo today. At our biggest, we were about 30 people standing for peace between the larger cries for war. Most were new faces, lots of young folks from West Philly and Center City.

 

We happily achieved our goal and got great media coverage--channel 3, the only one we saw so far, included us in their story fabulously. Susan taped it and if you missed it we can watch it on Sunday. I was also interviewed by channel 69, the Citypaper and two other print media that I neglectfully didn’t ask which, but I am pretty sure one is the Inquirer. Joseph was interviewed by the Jewish Exponent. I think that the lack of consensus amongst Jews will be revealed.

 

We had to endure lots of nasty harassment by everyone, of course, but we remained non-violent and civil and the police had our backs the entire time.

 

Thanks to all who came. Pretty great action for less than 24 hours notice. Here’s to more…
