      ALERT!!!

     In a recent statement on former President Carter's new book,
Democratic
leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi said:

    "It is wrong to suggest that the Jewish people would support a
government in Israel or anywhere else that institutionalizes ethnically
based oppression, and Democrats reject that allegation vigorously."

 To stereotype an entire people as  either particularly bad or good is
simple racism, and Rep. Pelosi should be asked to repudiate her
statement.
Neither Jewish religion nor Jewish genes have made the Jewish people
more
virtuous than others.  The idea that Jews are inferior has a well-known
and
despised name--anti-Semitism--but the idea that they are superior is
equally
bigotted and  pernicious.  In this context, it implicitly exonerates
Israel
of its criminal oppression of the Palestinian people simply by virtue of
its
Jewishness, and leaves no avenue open for discussing a change in policy.
Moreover, it ignores the racist laws and policies to which Israel's Arab
citizens are subject solely on the basis that they are not Jewish.

      --we do not want racist congressional representatives!

      --anyone thinking that Israel is incapable of institutionalized
racism
in dealing with the Palestinian issue is unfamiliar with the situation

    --uncritically supporting Israel, regardless of its oppressive
behavior,
has undermined US credibility throughout the world.  We want
congressional
representatives who promote the national interest.
