Dear all,
Thanks, Yvonne, for reminding us. The last I heard we were waiting
until we could read the book. I will be getting a signed copy when
Carter comes to Austin on Dec. 14, but feel I can speak out already
after hearing numerous interviews. I admire the way he responds to
rather baiting questions, "my, that is a controversial title..." etc.
He is speaking about apartheid in Palestine, not within Israel, and
makes that point clearly. He hammers away at the need to restore aid
and how the Palestinians' tax money is being withheld, etc., (points we
make as well in action alert). The man is forcing a debate and taking
the heat and we should be there with him. We already believe in these
things and he is generating the publicity. I see nothing wrong in
piggy-backing here, and applauding this courageous man. Can we ask
members to be present at book signings and to hold signs??
Although no longer a member of the Leadership Team, I have some time to
help develop a model letter, sign, or other items to make it easier for
members to speak out. If you need a hand in this area, I am available.
I think this is an activity to rally other groups to as well. By that
I mean whoever you work with locally, have them join you with signs
about "restore aid to Palestine" when Carter comes to town.
And or course, put WILPF on your sign, and pass out WILPF and WCUSP
materials!
Peace,
Tura
