Thanks, Katharina, for this excellent description of the various elements
that make up this entity. The comment I have been quoting for a while (but
am unable to recall who said it) is that "If we could ever find a way to
make peace profitable, we wouldn't have any problems". It's not totally
true, but it might cut off the funding source. I am very much convinced
that many of those who lead the fundamentalists do so for a profit motive,
although some only for "religious" reasons. If making peace could get
them rich, they might change their tune. (Of course, this is just my
own opinion, and not based on any research whatsoever.)
