The following policy explanation is meant to clarify and streamline our
endorsement process. It was approved via email consensus by the WILPF US
national board. In case you feel like this is bureacratic, please understand
the problem it is meant to solve: our Co-Presidents and ED are deluged with
requests for sponsorship and we want to help alleviate the need for them so
many requests by first having others within WILPF determine the
effectiveness of the proposed endorsement.

best,
C.J.

*WILPF US Policy on Statements / Sign-On's / Endorsements*
An entity of WILPF may request that WILPF US publish a statement, sign on to
another organization's statement or endorse an action.

"Entity" refers to a national board committee, a national issue committee, a
national campaign or a branch. Individuals should get the consensus of a
WILPF entity before submitting a request and answer each of the following
questions.

Requests submitted by individual at large members will be sent to the At
Large Board Representative, who will work on creating consensus in the Jane
Addams Branch through appropriate means before re-submitting the request to
the Co-Presidents and ED.

1. *What you are asking WILPF US to do*. If it is an endorsement request, is
there a monetary obligation? If so, from where are you requesting the funds?
Is there a time commitment for national staff?

2. *What is the benefit to WILPF US for signing onto the action / statement.
* This may seem obvious to you, but we are inundated with requests and we
are trying to be strategic and allow ourselves the space to create our own
actions, rather than using the majority of our leaders' time to field
endorsement requests.

3. *How will you promote this endorsement / action within the WILPF US
membership?* What follow-up is planned? Will this enhance our visibility and
help increase our membership?

Statement / Sign-on / Endorsement requests from an entity of WILPF should be
sent to the Executive Director and co-Presidents for approval. Under normal
circumstances, at least *five working days (Monday - Friday)* should be
allowed for review of the request.

*Please Note:* While an entity of WILPF may sign onto an action that falls
within the vision and mission of WILPF US and the program of WILPF
International, it is much better for us to act as a unified organization and
sign onto national actions under the national name. Therefore, especially if
you work within a national issue committee or campaign, please attempt to
get national endorsement for your proposed collaboration with other
organizations.
