Introducing Women Set the Agenda to Prevent War at the WAND conference(from Carol Urner, in Washington D.C. September 29 to October 5) I spent this past week in Washington D.C. on behalf of WILPF and the DISARM! Dismantle the War Economy Committee. I attended the Women Act for New Directions (WAND) national conference as part of the WILPF initiated “Women Set the Agenda to Prevent War" project. Three of us came especially for this purpose, namely Pyllis Yinglng (Catonsville MD Branch), Tzili Mor (Washington D.C.Branch) and myself (from Portland OR and Los Angeles Branches). Other WILPF members present included Yoshiko Ikuta from our WILPF DISARM leadership team. This great Women Set the Agenda project is the brainchild of our lively and creative Advancing Human Rights/Convention Against All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (AHR/CEDAW) committee. It was launched at the U.S. Social Forum (USSF) in Atlanta last June. WILPF joined with WAND and one other organization to present a work shop there on this new effort. Bobby Wrenn, on the WAND national staff, shares our enthusiasm for the project. WILPF and WAND are now planning to work together on approaching other women’s organizations at “peace tables,” exploring together our respective organizational agendas and looking for common goals we can work on together to prevent war and build peace. Phyllis Yingling ) and Tzili Mor brought project materials designed by AHR/CEDAW committee to most delegates at the WAND conference and received very positive feedback. Bobby Wrenn of WAND is actually planning a Women Set the Agenda Peace Table in Detroit next week. On October 2 I had a wonderful day spent lobbying with eight women from the Eugene, Oregon WAND Branch. (A sort of gentlewoman’s agreement has left WILPF to take care of Portland, and WAND to keep Eugene on a peaceful track). We decided that our organizations should organize peace tables in Oregon with women’s groups there and look for ways we can better work together to put an end to war. I must add that it was a delight to be with them. We were immediately at home with each other. We found we are very much alike and that both our personal and our organizational histories intertwine. This is not to say that we should merge our organizations. We have different gifts to bring. WILPF has a much broader peace agenda, and also much more emphasis on, experience in, and access to international agencies of the United Nations. WAND, on the other hand, is currently much better equipped for lobbying in Congress, and for political work in the states. For instance, they have a Political Action Committee (PAC) which actually helps women run for political office. It seemed like half of the delegates at the conference were State Senators and Representatives, many of them black. Those I met or heard speak are powerful women in the best sense of the word, and some of them are already moving on to run for the U.S. Congress. WAND has also developed strong relationships with progressive women (and some men!) who are already members of Congress, and several of them dropped by to meet with us. In addition WAND has two Congressional lobbyists. One of these concentrates on transforming the military budget to a budget for peace and on nuclear weapons abolition. The other, I understand, concentrates more on human rights and women’s issues in Congress. They also produce excellent educational materials in these areas. I think we have much to contribute to WAND from our own more international perspective and work at the United Nations. I also think we can gain in effectiveness by working with and learning from WAND. The problems we face are so huge that none of us can succeed alone. We must bring our own identities, our own talents and gifts to the peace tables and find ways to work together with other women, like those in WAND, to set the nation’s peace agenda and put an end to war. If the Peace Activists get enough signatures to have his name, Jack Shepard placed on the state primary election ballots for President; the Peace Activists who worked to have those petitions signed will meet and select the list of delegates themselves that Jack Shepard will submit to the Secretary of State of each state. So they will become delegates and will have the legal right to attend the Republican National Convention on September 1-4, 2008, where these Shepard Delegates will to become you, “Delegates for Peace”. It will give your life a moral meaning.

This will change “Peace Activists” from protesters that in the past made a small difference to “Real Delegates of Peace” to the 2008 Republican National Convention to discuss the Republican Platform and will give you the ability to add and voting for resolutions for peace and in the really vote to select a candidate the next person to get the Republican Nomination for President. With this year there being about 8 individual Republican candidates wishing the nomination for President, it is very highly possible you could become a “Delegates for Peace” and it could be your group that decides who really gets the Republican Nomination for President and can get real “Peace Statements and Promises” out of the Presidential candidate they decide to nominate.
The more people vote for Jack Shepard the more “Delegates for Peace” we will be rewarded with; when most likely Jack Shepard does not win on the first presidential ballot; then you the “Delegates for Peace” can pressure other Republican Presidential Candidates that wish the “Delegates for Peace” to vote for them after the first round to work for the ending all Middle East Conflicts and the creation of the State of Palestine which for me is the root cause of the present hatred America feels internationally because of America’s unfair bias only toward Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This was in 9/11 Commission reported on page 147; as the main cause of what motivated the 9/11 terrorists to attack the Twin Towers in New York.
The “Delegates for Peace” want to change from what the present Democratic Party or Republican Party has giving them for decades only wars after war. My delegates wish a Republican Party as it was when Abraham Lincoln was elected President, a party that welcomed all.
The “Delegates for Peace” may be strong enough to move the Republican Party to a party that will accept all, and will not be controlled by any radical groups with an extreme NeoCon Agenda, of military aggression as it has become. In this new Republican Party the “Delegates for Peace” may be able to form will welcome all into a party that works for peace first through negotiations, diplomacy, and arms control; détente and containment, pressure; not immediately war.
If the other Presidential candidates wish to get votes of the “Delegates for Peace” from all over America, they must promise to work for peace. The “Delegates for Peace” will demand to get their support the major republican candidates have to give them some clear peace plans of their own to end the present Middle East Conflicts or they will not get the votes of the “Delegates for Peace” from all over America.
This year the election will be so very close that the support of the “Delegates for Peace” may be necessary to win the GOP Nomination for President of the United States at this upcoming 2008 Republican National Convention:

That tells you how important I think New Hampshire is to me. It also made me the first Person in America to be registered to be on a state primary ballot in for the upcoming presidential election by either major party, we must remember, “ We are electing a commander-in-chief in 2008 not just a President.”
I am pleased that New Hampshire leads the nation by having one of the nations most important Peace Action Groups. I am offering the American Peace movement a chance during the Republican National Convention to move from protesters that in the past had at best only a small effected an American Presidents Foreign Policy decisions, to change all that to become as real delegates to the 2008 Republican National Convention where for 4 days; they will get international press media attention for their Peace Causes and become a major and God willing permanent effect on the American President that they decide to vote for when he makes his Foreign policy decisions concerning the Middle East.
Some “Delegates for Peace” will be able speak to the convention delegation, all will be able to vote on the Republican National Platform and work to try to have causes concerning Peace be added to it. Finally you the “Delegates for Peace” if the group is large enough that your vote could decide who is nominated the next Republican Presidential Nomination; that before this candidate gets the Republican Nomination for President he will have to promise in public on international media, to you the “Delegates for Peace” on the record before the “Delegation for Peace” votes for him that he will; work to end all the present Middle East Conflicts. He will not expanding the present Conflicts in the Middle East by attacking Iran and Syria. He will place the maximum amount of pressure on Israel to form the state of Palestine.
The fact the Israel has not let the state of Palestine be created is the root cause of all terrorism toward America today. Your “Delegation for Peace” can be an instrument of the Lords Peace, “Where there is hatred, you can sow Love.”
