Advice on planning your arrival:
We advise WILPF participants to come on June 21 to get oriented, BE EARLY on June 22, there will be thousands registering at 10 a.m. Be in place at 2 p.m. for the opening march and ceremony. After 3 p.m., the streets will be cordoned off for annual International, Canada and U.S. fireworks. So, again, if you are arriving on June 22, come as early as possible.
1) ACCOMMODATIONS – We’ve reserved rooms at three separate hotels.
Please bring a credit card or check to hold your part of the room’s cost. (See information below for registration details.)
All locations offer wireless connections. All require two women to a bed. Anyone who does not want to share a bed should pay double the stated amount per night. There appears to be some room for air mattresses for the “economically challenged.”
a) DoubleTree Hotel on Lafayette Street: We have 6 rooms (that’s 18 bed spaces). All rooms disability accessible. This is closest to Cobo Hall (a two block walk or take a free shuttle). This is nearly full with Program Committee members. Each room has a King bed, large bath and in a separate area, a pullout Queen sofa bed. You can add a blow-up mattress; plenty of floor space. Cost @ 4 persons daily = $35. 65 (taxes included) X 6 days. Free Parking. Shuttle available for events within 5 miles.
b) Hilton Garden Inn on Gratiot Street. We have 2 different rooms (that is 8 bed spaces). Both are good size, with two double beds, = 4 persons @ $31.10 X 6 days. $20 a day parking. One room is disability accessible. So besides 2 double beds, floor space is wide enough for 2 blow-up mattresses. Has a walk-in shower; Restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Walk two blocks to the People Mover public transportation. There are $5 Passes available for the whole event.
c) Detroit Regency, E Jefferson Street. We have 7 regular-size rooms, Each with two double beds (that is 28 bed spaces). Each @ $21.85 X 6 days. Free Shuttle arranged. No charge for parking. About 1 mile from Cobo Hall, but it’s in the middle of the entire area that will be used for USSF events. There may be additional rooms available at this location.
2) HOTEL ROOM RESERVATIONS: Since all hotel rooms above are confirmed, please contact WILF member Terry Futvoye-Micus, who is also serving on the USSF National Planning Committee, at: terfutmic(at)aol.com, for a personal confirmation number. (Her phone numbers, if you need them, are below.)
3) TRANSPORTATION is a work-in-process. The PEOPLE MOVER is a raised train that circles both the downtown area & Greektown. A 24-hour pass for the whole event will be $5.
AIRPORT TRANSIT IS $45. Detroit member-help may be possible. Scheduling your arrivals in the morning or at mid-day will help.
However, your contact – and if possible – roommate information needs to come to Terry ASAP to secure your confirmation number. She must know by June 10th whether your arrival is June 21st or June 22nd and if you’re staying until 27th.
